In February 22, Dr. Andreas
Lyberatos, Assistant Researcher in the Institute for Mediterranean
Studies, gave a lecture in the premises of the Institute on “Mechanical
Clocks and the Concept of Time in the Balkans (16th-20th Centuries).
Cultural Transfer and Socio-cultural Transformation”. The series of
lectures by members of the Institute will go on in March, with Drs.
Marinos Sariyannis (March 3, “Sorcerers, Vampires and Ghosts in the Ottoman Empire (16th-19th Centuries): The
Supernatural in the Learnt Tradition”) and Elias Kolovos (March 27,
“Cretan Weddings: The Creation of the Muslim Cretan Community”).
“Digital Crete:
Mediterranean Cultural Itineraries”

The Institute for
Mediterranean Studies decided to further expand and enrich with
information on the Roman period the research program “Digital Crete:
Mediterranean Cultural Itineraries”, which includes various databases and
WEB_GIS atlases on the history and art of Crete during Antiquity, the
Venetian, the Ottoman and the early 20th-century period. The website of
the research program (http://digitalcrete.ims.forth.gr), which was implemented
under the framework of the Greek Operational Program Information Society,
has had so far 91,479 visits from 67,611 unique visitors since 2009, when
it was first launched.
ELISTOKAINO (Greek History of
Innovation – Social prerequisites of innovation and aspects of the Greek
experience)

After the evaluation of the
Action KRIPIS of the
2007-2013 National Strategic Reference Framework, the project ELISTOKAINO (Greek History of Innovation – Social
prerequisites of innovation and aspects of the Greek experience),
submitted by the Institute for Mediterranean Studies, has been approved.
The project, in collaboration with the Institute of Applied and
Computational Mathematics, has a total budget of 661,045 € and will last
for 30 months with the aim to explore various aspects of the history of
industrial, scientific and cultural innovation in Greek economy, society and
culture. The Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and
Archaeo-environment of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies also takes
part in the project POLITEIA of Action KRIPIS.
Drs. Apostolos Sarris and
Nikos Papadopoulos of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies became
Research Associates of Department of Anthropology of The Field Museum of
Natural History of Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Following an invitation from
the Department of Anthropology of The Field Museum of Natural History of Chicago, Illinois, USA,
researchers Drs. Apostolos Sarris and Nikos Papadopoulos of the Institute
for Mediterranean Studies became Research Associates of the former
institution. This collaboration is a follow-up of joint research programs
with the Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-Environment
of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies in Greece
(Greek – American Collaborative, Multi-Disciplinary, Research on the Mani Peninsula,
Southern Greece) and Hungary
(U.S.-Hungarian-Greek Collaborative International Research Experience for
Students on Origins and Development of Prehistoric European Villages. U.S.A. –
National Science Foundation (NSF): International Research Experiences for
Students (IRES)).
ΕΠΙΣΚΕΨΗ ΤΟΥ ΓΕΝΙΚΟΥ ΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΕΑ
ΕΡΕΥΝΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΤΕΧΝΟΛΟΓΙΑΣ ΣΤΟ ΙΕΧΜΗ

Στο πλαίσιο της επίσκεψής του
Γενικού Γραμματέα Έρευνας και Τεχνολογίας του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και
Θρησκευμάτων, Πολιτισμού και Αθλητισμού, καθηγητή Βασίλειο Μάγκλαρη, στην
Περιφέρεια Δυτικής Ελλάδας, επισκέφτηκε για πρώτη φορά και τις
εγκαταστάσεις του Ινστιτούτου Επιστημών Χημικής Μηχανικής, ΙΕΧΜΗ του
Ιδρύματος Τεχνολογίας και Έρευνας (ΙΤΕ). Η επίσκεψη
πραγματοποιήθηκε την Τρίτη 12 Φεβρουαρίου, 2013, στις 15.00.
Τον Γενικό υποδέχθηκε ο Διευθυντής
καθ. Κώστας Γαλιώτης και σύσσωμο το επιστημονικό συμβούλιο του
ΙΕΧΜΗ. Ο Γενικός συνοδευόταν από στελέχη του Υπουργείου και τον
Αντιπεριφερειάρχη της Περιφέρειας Δυτικής Ελλάδας κο Αγγελόπουλο. Κατά
την διάρκεια της επίσκεψης που διήρκησε περίπου δύο ώρες, ο κ. Γενικός
ενημερώθηκε από τον Διευθυντή για τις δραστηριότητες του ινστιτούτου στις
περιοχές έρευνας αιχμής που διεξάγει ενώ στελέχη του ινστιτούτου τον
ξενάγησαν σε επιλεγμένα εργαστήρια, όπου είχε τη δυνατότητα να δει από
κοντά τα τρέχοντα ερευνητικά επιτεύγματα του ΙΕΧΜΗ και να συνομιλήσει με
τους ερευνητές και το υπόλοιπο ερευνητικό προσωπικό του ινστιτούτου.

JOHANNES HAHN ΣΤΟ ΙΤΕ/ ΙΕΧΜΗ

Ο Επίτροπος κ. Johannes Hahn,
αρμόδιος για την Περιφερειακή Πολιτική, επισκέφτηκε την Πάτρα, την Πέμπτη
14 Φεβρουαρίου 2013. Η επίσκεψη αυτή εντασσόταν στο πλαίσιο
"περιοδείας" του Επιτρόπου στις 13 ελληνικές Περιφέρειες, με
την οποία επιδιώκει να διασφαλίσει την αποτελεσματικότερη αξιοποίηση των
διαρθρωτικών πόρων – της κυριότερης πηγής δημοσίων επενδύσεων για τη
χώρα.
Ο Επίτροπος συνοδευόταν από τον
Επικεφαλή της Αντιπροσωπείας της ΕΕ στην Ελλάδα, κ. Πάνο Καρβούνη και τον
Περιφερειάρχη Δυτικής Ελλάδας, κ. Απόστολο Κατσιφάρα.
Στο πλαίσιο της επίσκεψής του,
επέλεξε να δει δύο από τα τρία έργα που χρηματοδοτεί η ΕΕ από το ΕΣΠΑ, το
νέο κτίριο του ΙΤΕ/ΙΕΧΜΗ, και το νέο λιμάνι της Πάτρας..
Τον Επίτροπο υποδέχθηκε στο ΙΤΕ/
ΙΕΧΜΗ ο Διευθυντής Κώστας Γαλιώτης και το Επιστημονικό Συμβούλιο του
ινστιτούτου. Η επίσκεψη κράτησε περίπου μία ώρα, διάστημα κατά το οποίο ο
κος Γαλιώτης έκανε μία σύντομη παρουσίαση των δραστηριοτήτων του
ινστιτούτου και των περιοχών έρευνας στις οποίες δραστηριοποίειται.
Επίσης του παρουσίασε τα καινοτομικά προϊόντα του ΙΕΧΜΗ και τις εταιρείες
τεχνοβλαστούς οι οποίες έχουν προέλθει από δραστηριότητες των ερευνητών
του ινστιτούτου. Στη συνέχεια επιθεώρησε το το χρηματοδοτούμενο έργο,
συνομίλησε με τους εργολάβους και φωτογραφήθηκε στους χώρους του
ινστιτούτου. Η επίσκεψη έκλεισε με μία σύντομη ξενάγηση στους χώρους
των εργαστηρίων και συνομιλία με τους ερευνητές του ιδρύματος.
